Welcome to mikedowney.org! We can look at this 2 ways: I’ve been working on this site for the past 4 months or, I’ve been working on this site for the past 20 years.
What is this? This is a place where I am collecting artifacts from my previous bands and solo projects. And this is a place I will keep up to date with my current musical adventures. All of this stuff means a lot to me and I wanted one place where I could have it all on display for anyone interested. I realized that if anyone was interested in knowing about these bands they’d be hard pressed to find info on most of them. A whole lot of content was lost between the mid ’90s and when things got digital. And even then, digital content vanishes. Some of this has been up on previous blogs, band sites, etc… but then again a lot of it hasn’t.
Firstly, I put this site together for myself and for my bandmates who made this music with me. If you are a fan of any of these bands and have bought music, come out to a show or supported us in any way then bless you. Honestly, it has and still does mean a whole lot. I can’t stress that enough.
I’ve spent a lot of time gathering content, organizing and putting all of the events within to a timeline. Please keep in mind that this is all from my perspective from the best of my memory. But this site wouldn’t have been anywhere near as complete as it is without the help of former bandmates and friends who have spent their time digitizing video, scanning photos and hunting around at my request for various stuff. If I tried to make a list I would forget somebody so I just want to say thank you to everyone who contributed!
I’m not a web designer (Joe Ziemba and Dan Marsden are though) and it feels almost silly to be presenting so much of their work in this fashion, but what I really aimed to do is let the content speak for itself. I’m into organizing! I hope it all looks ok guys.
I would say, as far as the archival content goes, that this site is about 90% complete. I am aware of some key pieces of video and audio that I really think would be worthwhile but I just simply can’t get to it right now, or I’m waiting on it. That said, I will be updating this site as more content rolls in.
And not to dwell on the past too much, I have loads of new music in the pipeline and this is where I’ll be talking about it. You can sign up for the newsletter over to the right or follow me on twitter to stay updated.
Now, let’s dig into this. The jumping off point is the bands/projects page. From there you can navigate around. I’ve tried to link back/forth to how everything intertwines. And I’ve posted links to where you can stream or buy the releases. I think I have all my bases covered here. Just let me know if you have any comments or requests for how to present it better.
I’m going to leave you with that. This has been an absolute blast to put together and I’m really glad I put in the work to get all of this in one spot. Thank you for looking around. We’ll talk again soon.
